Beaches

Corfu is surrounded by beautiful beaches and if you come across one with a blue flag you should know that it represents an organized beach that not only has crystal clear waters but also provides crucial lifeguard services, first aid, sunbeds and much more. Currently Corfu has ten blue flag beaches which are all around the island and in one marina in Gouvia.
Find the best beaches in Corfu for you and your family.
Immerse your feet in the warm golden sand of Sidari, Almyros or Kalamaki beach, which are located in the North. Watch the mesmerizing sunset of Loggas or Arillas beach situated in the northwestern section of the island. Explore the spectacular sand dunes of Chalikounas in the South as they will leave you breathless.
Don’t miss the chance to visit the gem of Corfu, Paleokastritsa, also known as Paleo. Driving through the village of Lakones, make sure that you stop at the vista points to enjoy the gorgeous panorama. A secret hidden paradise you must see is La Grotta within the same vicinity. If you believe in myths, you should absolutely visit Canal D`amour (Canal of Love), near Sidari. It is very special natural phenomenon, an absolutely unique rock formation where you can take in the surreal landscape while also soiling up your skin with natural clay. Safety tip- avoid the canal when waves are large or sluggish.
Nudest beaches can be found in Corfu. One of the more popular locations is in Myrtiotissa Beach which is located near Glyfada beach. Accessing this area can be quite tricky as the paved road only offers enough space for one car. Getting down to the nude beach is somewhat challenging but achievable with caution. The area is quite amazing since the scenery is surrounded by turquoise waters and amazing rock formations nestled near the steep mountain.
Another hidden gem is located in North Corfu by Almyros beach. Antinioti West Beach is also a nudist beach. A little walk offers you peaceful and splendid views of the Albanian mountains. The area offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

Beach bars can be found along the sandy beaches where you can party and dance to the sounds of music played by professional DJ's.
  • Beaches on the north-west are surpassed with rocky and robust shores. Here you can take your time and explore life under water. Shallow turquoise waters are imminent.
  • The north-east section of the island you can find shallow waters and sandy beaches and some really tempting tavernas by the water.
  • Beaches on the north offer a mixture or sand and stones with a extended shoreline and clear and visible sunsets.
  • Beaches on the east tend to offer still waters which are great for swimming.
  • Beaches on the west are long and sandy with amazing picturesque rock formation.
  • Beaches on the south-west are covered with golden sand. Ample shorelines allow peaceful walks to admire the stunning waves.

Driving Tips

Quick tip-Watch out for the elderly who are behind the wheel. They have little disregard to others around them and generally don't abide to traffic rules. Bumping into other vehicles and driving off is quite the routine. Most cars are destroyed on the island anyway.

Double parking is second nature to most Greeks so be prepared to maneuver around carefully.
Driving direction is similar to that of the states. Roads however are much smaller and are generally occupied by pot holes. Intersection lighting is hideous in many areas as it’s very hard to see what color your light is. Most lights are parallel to the driver so you must peak your head out the window or below the windshield to check when it turns green. Lighting is also dim so it hard to figure out if it’s a green or red. There are roundabouts throughout the island, usually the vehicle that's already in the roundabout has the right-away but that's not necessarily the case so be extra careful when entering and exiting.

Headlights do not need to be on during the day.

Drive with caution and pay attention to your surroundings. In order to avoid damage to your rental car, try to avoid the pot holes and have extra caution when parking your vehicle near a supermarket.
